A former pupil dubbed ‘Mr Harrow High’ has won a second award for his commitment to the school.

Yousef Al-Mana received a Jack Petchey Achievement Award as a student at Harrow High School Academy, in Gayton Road, Harrow, but has now also managed to acquire a leader award there too.

The 21-year-old became the school’s head boy in Year 11, later being given the title of senior head boy during his time in Sixth Form.

At the end of Year 13, an opportunity to work at Harrow High was presented to him and three years down the line, he is still at the school and will be going off to university on a part-time basis from September.

He said: “I’m very pleased about winning the awards, first as a student and then as a learning support assistant at Harrow High. Winning was totally unexpected on both occasions.

“I was a difficult learner initially, but co-operating with the school helped me to grow and develop my leadership skills and personality.

“There were a few teachers who pushed me and guided me along the way, inspiring me to want to give back to the school.”

After completing his degree at University College of Football Business, Yousef hopes to go into the events management field.

He added: “Ultimately, I would like to work in the Emirates Stadium - and maybe one day even back at Harrow High School.”

Livon Houslin, the Jack Petchey co-ordinator at Harrow High, said: “Yousef is a most hard working member of staff who is supportive, helpful, caring and always willing to step into the breach. Yousef commits himself 100 per cent to the cause.

“He supports both army and police cadets within school and both have had their numbers increased since his involvement. Above all else, he is very well respected.”
