Dartford mothers have been left "stressed and upset" after GP surgery delays left their poorly babies without crucial jabs, despite one suffering from a potentially serious infection.

Melissa Morgan, 26, of Kenwyn Road, gave birth to baby Olivia on October 24 and booked her eight-week jabs a month in advance.

Despite this the vaccinations were delayed by Maple Surgery in West Hill, Dartford, until January 19.

Meanwhile Miss Morgan has still not been given a date for Olivia's crucial 12-week jabs, which must take place within four weeks of the eight-week jabs to be effective.

And 26-year-old Cheryl Booker, of Littlebrook Manor Way, whose baby Sophie was born on October 30, has experienced the same thing.

The pair have been told they must use their registered surgery, so cannot go elsewhere for the injections - despite there being two other surgeries in the same building.

Miss Morgan, a care assistant at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, said: "I have gone through a lot of stress really.

"At the beginning of December Olivia was in hospital for a few days and she was really ill and the staff there said you really need to get these jabs at eight weeks.

"I am really angry. They just cannot have new-born babies not being vaccinated.

"I am upset and I am worried for my child.

"I worry about taking her out because she may become ill. It restricts me because I have a six-year-old as well, who I also need to look after."

Miss Booker, whose baby suffers from Strep-B - which makes her more vulnerable to infection - added: "They can't seem to get hold of a nurse, despite there being two GP surgeries in the same building.

"They said they couldn't get a doctor to do it.

"I have to be really careful with Sophie. I am upset and angry, upset because if my daughter ends up ill I will come down on them like a tonne of bricks, angry because they don't seem to care.

"They are new-born babies for God's sake.

"They won't refer us to anywhere else - they say it has to be done at your local surgery.

"All they tell us is that they are 'sorting it'."

A spokeswoman for Maple Hill Surgery said: "We won't comment on specific cases due to confidentiality."
