A COUPLE of Ealing pensioners have published a book detailing where to travel in London to escape the regular tourist haunts.
At the End of the Line, by Howard Thomas, 69, and partner Kristin Foord, 62, shows readers what there is to do away from the usual tourist traps of Hyde Park, Chelsea FC, Harrods and Knightsbridge.
The adventurous duo had the idea for the book while travelling on the Underground, using their Freedom passes for the first time. They decided to begin visiting places they would otherwise never have thought of going.
Howard said: “We wanted to do something different. Oxford Circus, almost all the people in the world have heard of, but Cockfosters? Well that’s another matter.
“We wanted to share this journey with others, as we rattled along.”
This light-hearted e-book, which costs a mere £1.54, with 10% of the royalties donated to Age UK, is also aimed at younger readers.
The authors want to encourage first-time buyers and new city-goers to discover more about London by working inwards, from the end of the tube lines into the city.
Howard added: “Hopefully, finding ourselves At the End of the Line does not mean we have mentally and physically got to ‘the end of the line’- at least, not yet!”
