A petition is calling for the leader of Spelthorne Council to resign after he was accused of laughing at the parents of a seven-year-old boy who died during flooding last year.
Zane Gbangbola, who attended St George's Junior School, Weybridge, died after his home in Chertsey was flooded.
His father Kye Gbangbola, 48, said Conservative Councillor Robert Watts laughed during the council vote on the family's petition for a public debate on Zane's death, on December 18.
Coun Watts has since apologised and said his smile was an involuntary reaction in response to another councillor.
