Projects can bid for money via the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), after the latest round of funding opened.

CIL is a charge on some forms of development which raises funds towards infrastructure to support new development.

Elmbridge Council passes 25 per cent of CIL funds to communities where development has taken place.

The remaining 75 per cent will be spent on infrastructure within the borough, such as improvements to schools and roads.

Councillor Andrew Kelly, portfolio holder for regulatory affairs, said: “This funding will enable communities to benefit as a direct result of new development taking place in their area.

“It is a community led approach where organisations can bid for funding to support infrastructure improvements in their area.”

Successful community applications in 2014 included improvements to community facilities, countryside access and enhancement of sporting facilities.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 31. To apply visit elmbridge.gov.uk/planning/policy/funding.
