Rail passengers using lines serving Waltham Forest will have to pay about two per cent more for their journeys from today.

Commuters using the line between Chingford and Liverpool Street will pay £52 more for an annual zone one to five season ticket.

Travellers using the Barking to Gospel Oak line, which includes Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow Queens Road, Leyton Midland and Leytonstone High Road, will also have to pay around two per cent more for their journeys.

The increases are the lowest the government has introduced in the last five years and the current rate of inflation is one per cent.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: "We are investing in the biggest rail modernisation since the Victorian era, and fares have a crucial role to play in funding these improvements."
