The Rose Theatre's new season line-up includes classic Shakespeare, family fun and the first-ever stage adaption of a best-selling novel.

The season opens with Sign of The Times, a comedy drama following the power of words and dreams in a changing world.

The theatre's first home production of the year tells the classic tale of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet, directed by the Olivier award nominated Sally Cookson, who put on the hit Hetty Feather earlier this year.

Staying with a Shakespearean theme, Propeller Theatre will bring classic literature to life for younger audiences in 60 minute sittings of Pocket Comedy, The Comedy of Errors for Young Audiences.

Three Men in a Boat – a boating misadventure with three characters and a silent pianist, that begins in Kingston, will also play at the Rose for the first time.

Jerry Gunn, executive producer at the Rose, says: "It seems daft that we have not had it here before because it has Kingston in it."

For all those who enjoyed The Play That Goes Wrong, now a west end smash-hit; this season Mischief Theatre offers Peter Pan Goes Wrong. Imagine the classic tale of Peter, Wendy and Hook told with everything upside down.

King Lear, The Absence of War and Agatha Christie's The Secret Adversary, are also on the bill for the upcoming season but it is the thought-provoking and heartwrenching story The Boy in the Stripped Pyjamas, that is most-awaited.

The play, brought to the stage for the first time by the Childrens Touring Partnership, centres around two young boys who strike up a friendship with a fence between them. One is the son of a commander of a concentration camp, the other, a little boy within the camp.

Also coming to a theatre near you for the first-time ever, is award winning troupe Lidor Entertainment, who will stage the spectacular Voca People, an acapella extravaganza.

Gunn says: "It is a really, fun, special thing it’s a phenomenon."

Children will also be able to enjoy Room on the Broom, The Amazing Bubble Man, The Fantastical Story Factory, The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Stick Man Live on Stage.

Meanwhile comedian Stewart Lee has already committed to a night full of new material later in the year.
