While most of us will be opening presents and eating dinner with our family this Christmas, these dogs at Battersea Brands Hatch will spend it in kennels.

That's why the dogs and cats home is appealing to the public to help find them a home.

All four have been in kennels far longer than the average 29 day stay.

Barkley is a one-year-old Jack Russell who has been at Battersea for three months and looks like butter wouldn’t melt. Don’t be fooled! He is a bundle of energy who needs firm and sensible owners who won’t overstimulate him. With controlled activity and plenty of exercise, Barkley will make a great dog for adults with good terrier experience.

News Shopper:

Karli is a four-year-old Lurcher. She was brought to Battersea almost two months ago when her owner started working longer hours and was leaving her home alone more and more. Karli has never been socialised with other dogs and is very nervous as a result. A quiet area with patient owners who will work on her confidence would be the perfect outcome.

Simba is a 10-month-old puppy who has been at Battersea for over 100 days – about a third of his life. He has no trouble attracting attention because of his looks, but he’s had a very difficult start and needs extremely experienced owners prepared for constant training to deal with behaviour including lead frustration and reacting to other dogs.

Bonnie is a five-year-old German Shepherd cross who has been at Battersea since July. Her owner couldn’t cope with her anymore and so brought her to Battersea to be rehomed, but she is very nervous of strangers and so has had a tricky time in kennels. She gets on quite well with cats and will make a great pet for someone prepared to put time into her training and ongoing socialisation with other dogs.

Michelle Bevan, rehoming and welfare manager of Battersea Brands Hatch, said: "The average stay for a dog at Battersea is 29 days so each of these dogs has been in kennels for far too long.

"They each have specific requirements and will need a lot of time and patience, but they will all make the most fantastic and rewarding pets for the right person. If that’s you – please get in touch."
