A centenarian whose zest for life has never faltered has been described as “remarkable”.

Jane Gladding, who lives in Rectory Close Sheltered Housing, in Hendon Lane, celebrated her 100th birthday with a party surrounded by her friends and family.

Mrs Gladding was born in Sydney Road, Muswell Hill, where she grew up, before moving to Pembroke Road with her husband.

Now a great-grandmother, she worked at the family’s greengrocers – Gladdings, in Muswell Hill, before moving to Rectory Close 19 years ago.

She is the last remaining sibling, having grown up with five brothers and sisters.

Her daughter, Vera Freeman, said: “She’s pretty amazing for her age. She’s still got all her faculties and her standards haven’t dropped.

“She still looks after herself. For 100, she is immaculate, she’s remarkable.

“I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about the party because she doesn’t like being in the limelight, but she told me how much she enjoyed it.”

Her birthday is on December 31,
