A woman who died after being stabbed in the street has been named.

Detectives investigating the murder in Rayners Lane have named the victim as 45-year-old Alison Morrison.

Mrs Morrison was vice chairman of the Harrow Safer Neighbourhood Board.

Police were called to Alexandra Avenue at 7.47am, yesterday after a woman collapsed in the street from stab wounds.

She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, in central London, where she died at 11.39am.

Officers say a 48-year-old man was arrested in Lincolnshire on suspicion of murder and taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody.

On witness who saw the attack and asked not to be named, said: “I was just in my room and heard a noise. At first I thought it was just crash or something.

“Then I heard a scream and then I heard someone calling for help. I went outside and saw a man just standing over a woman with a knife stabbing her.

“I wanted to go over and do something but I saw the knife and went back inside.

“Then I saw the guy run away and I jumped in my car after him but he was in his car and he sped off.

“I know stabbings happen but to have it on your doorstep is horrific. I just can't believe it happened. It's so sad.”

Another witness said: “I heard a scream and I knew something terrible was happening.

“I saw a woman in the floor and then police and ambulance arrived.

“This is just a residential road and to have that happen is just horrible.”

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Bonner, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command said: "The thoughts of the Metropolitan Police Service go out to Allison's family at this terrible time.

"Alexandra Avenue is a busy thoroughfare and I am sure that there will have been people who may have witnessed all or some of the incident who are yet to come forward.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area between 7.30am and 7.50am on the morning of Thursday 18, to contact police."
