The Conservative party has announced its parliamentary candidate for Edmonton.

School activist Gonul Daniels was selected by Edmonton Conservative Association to challenge Andy Love MP for the seat next May.

Mrs Daniels, chairman of the South West Enfield Action Team, has campaigned for school places in the south west of Enfield.

She also stood as candidate for Haselbury ward in this May’s council elections.

Mrs Daniels said: “Edmonton has one of the highest levels of child poverty in Britain. This has to change.  We have to support people getting back into work and help them out of the benefits trap, so they can give their children the future they deserve. As a mother I'm appalled by such poverty and as a representative of the people I would want to put it right.

"I will work tirelessly with you to make a better Edmonton. I will put Edmonton first; I will bring Edmonton to Parliament’s attention and hold the local authority to account."

Conservative Association chairman Councillor Lee Chamberlain added: "In Mrs Daniels we have someone with a track record of hard work and ability, I know she will work tirelessly for the people of Edmonton."

MP Andy Love represented Edmonton since 1997.
