A charity that helps and supports people with learning disabilities in the borough has won a national award.

Friends for Friends was presented with an everyday impact award at the Directory of Social Change Awards in central London.

The Pinner-based charity, founded in 1984, aims to improve the lives of people across Harrow by pairing people up with volunteers and helping them become part of the community.

It's Chairman John Seymour says: “We were delighted to be nominated for the award and even more thrilled to win such a highly coveted prize.

“The Everyday Impact Award for Long Term is an incredible achievement and is testament to what a long way our charity has come.

“It was an amazing evening for a small organisation that does so much for those with learning difficulties in the Harrow area.

“We hope to be able to capitalise on this national award by not only raising well needed funds, but also recruit the volunteers we so desperately need and rely on.”
