A former Kingston rugby player has died at the age of 76.
John William Cartwright, died on Saturday, November 15. He was known as JC or Johno by his friends and family, and up until 12 years ago had lived in Surrey all his life.
Mr Cartwright grew up in Between Streets, Cobham, and went on to own the Panels Garage in Cobham.
From the early 1960s Mr Cartwright was a keen rugby player and spent many years at Kingston Rugby Club as a first team member, playing wing forward, and was top scorer over one season.
A team mate described him as “quite fast on his feet and very good around the scrum”.
His daughter Debra Devlin said: “He later settled for a more sedate life, which involved a love of gardening and he gained endless hours of pleasure creating beautiful gardens.”
Mr Cartwright is survived by his wife Maria, daughter Debra and two grandsons Lawrence and Alexander.
