Orpington MP Jo Johnson has been accused of voting to sell off the NHS because of his alleged links to private healthcare firms.

Mr Johnson is one of 70 Coalition MPs named in a dossier following an investigation from trade union Unite.

Unite lists the MPs it claims have links to private healthcare companies and voted for the Health and Social Care Act.

The act opened up NHS contracts to the private and voluntary sectors, despite criticism it would lead to the privatisation of the health service.

Unite has accused Mr Johnson’s office of receiving £6,000 in 2010 from Robin Crispin Odey, founder of the hedge fund which part-owns Circle Health.

Circle is the first private firm to run an NHS hospital – Hinchingbrooke in Cambridgeshire.

The firm also won a multi-million pound contract to provide musculoskeletal services in Bedfordshire.

Following an earlier investigation, Unite claimed £1.5 billion has left the NHS and gone to 15 private companies.

The union reported 70 per cent of tendered contracts have been awarded to the private sector.

News Shopper is awaiting Mr Johnson's response to Unite's claims.
