A meeting is being held in opposition to the growing number of academies in Lewisham.
The National Union of Teachers has organised the event due to concerns that several schools, including Bonus Pastor Catholic College, could be seeking academy status.
Lewisham secretary Martin Powell-Davies said: "When they were first introduced, some parents may have believed the politicians who claimed that academies were the answer. Now, experience confirms that breaking-up Local Authority schooling does not improve education.
"Instead, it creates a fragmented system where schools are run by unaccountable businesses and individuals, making things even harder for parents, students and staff."
The union wants councils to be given powers to open new community schools instead.
A meeting will be held at The Green Man, Bromley Road, Catford, on November 12 at 7pm.
