The Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) has beaten some of the biggest names in world sport to win the ‘Sports Team of the Year’ award.
The CACT triumphed over the Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham Football Club foundations, San Francisco Giants and the Boston Red Sox on October 30 at the Beyond Sports awards ceremony in Johannesburg.
More than 350 organisations entered the competition which aims to promote, support and reward the best projects across the globe the use sport for positive social change.
CACT CEO Jason Morgan said: “It was an honour being in South Africa to collect the award and proud moment to receive such global recognition for our work. It was incredible to hear so many people over the last few days acknowledge our numerous projects and programmes that take place across Greenwich, Bexley and Kent.
“It goes without saying that this is down to the work of all CACT staff and I would like to thank them for their continuous hard work and dedication. I would also extend my thanks to the club for their support and our board of trustees for their support, time and valuable strategic guidance.”
Beyond Sport has awarded 150 projects through their innovation in sport since launching in 2009.
