Students have started a push to try to raise £5,000 for the Royal British Legion.

Over sixty public service students from Barking & Dagenham College have given up their half term to go out onto the streets and collect cash for the annual poppy appeal.

Young people stood at landmarks in London such as St Paul’s Cathedral, Liverpool Street Station and the Tower of London.

Public service student Chris Robertson, 22, from Leytonstone, said: “This is such an important cause so we all wanted to get involved. It’s been an incredible experience.

“We’ve met some amazing people through the Royal British Legion and the public have been very friendly and very generous, which has been great to see.”

Last year, students raised over £3,000 for the appeal, but this year they are determined to beat that amount and are hoping to raise £5,000.
