People living in supported housing close to a drive-through McDonald’s restaurant bidding to stay open all night say they fear sleepless nights if the plan is approved.

John Loizou, franchisee of the branch in Sewardstone Road, Chingford, has submitted an application to remain open around the clock, seven days a week.

But people living in nearby Wingrove House, a 25-flat housing association block for over-55s with low-level health needs, expect severe disruption.

Linda Penhaligon's flat overlooks the McDonald’s car park.

The 66-year-old said: "Even at 2am when it’s closed, cars drive in with music blaring and car doors slamming.

Notice of the application was attached to a fence and published in the Guardian on October 2, as required by law, but residents say more should have been done to inform those directly affected.

But Wingrove House tenant Nicky Lines expects concerns to be ignored.

The 66-year-old added: “It’s not fair on the age group of people living here - it is a housing association for elderly people.

Defending the plan, Mr Loizou said: "It’s important to me to provide the best experience for everyone who visits my restaurant, but I also want to be a good neighbour by providing jobs and being open to members of the local community."

The deadline for representations to the council is Friday.
