Pupils made an amazing discovery at their school as part a national project to encourage creative writing.

Teachers at St John's Church of England School, in Stanmore, created a giant nest and eggs to get pupils thinking creatively, then askewd them to write a news story about it.

The event was part of national project called Everybody Writes to celebrate writing of all kinds.

Assistant headteacher Helena Warren said: “What we really wanted to do to stimulate our children’s creativity and get them thinking about different stories.

“All the children loved it and they all wrote a news story about it for the end of the day.

“For us it is important to make the learning fun so the children write with purpose and engage with the task.”

Headteacher Jo Hester said: “It really has been an amazing day for the whole school.

“We wanted to make writing real for the children and they all really enjoyed it.”
