An 83-year-old man says he has been struggling to get about after road works put a bus stop out of action.

Stanley Myers, of Gladesmore Road, is currently forced to walk to South Tottenham station to get to the community centre where he volunteers, as the St Ann’s stop in Tottenham High Road is closed.

He thinks Transport for London should have put a temporary bus stop in place while the work was carried out.

Mr Myers is furious with the lack of information from the transport company.

He said: “They don’t even seem to know when the bus stop will be up and running. You talk to them and you may as well be talking to the wall.

“The workmen are nowhere to be seen, they look as though they’ve abandoned it at the moment. I last saw anybody there seven or eight days ago. It’s a bit annoying. If I were young it wouldn’t bother me so much.”

He added: “They’ve known they were going to do the work around the stop, they’ve dug two big holes. Why not put up a temporary stop? There’s plenty of space to put one up. I can’t understand why they won’t.”

Mr Myers’s daughter Beverly Morris said TfL told her the work would be completed by Thursday October 9.

She said: “By that Thursday nobody was even working on the road, let alone finishing the work. They hadn’t started.”

She added: “How hard can it be to put up a temporary bus stop? It’s like the people who run this country just don’t care.”

The Independent has contacted Transport for London, which is looking into the issue.
