Hundreds flocked to West Wickham at the weekend to celebrate the Hindu festival of Diwali.

The evening, described by the organisers as "full of goldens and silvers", was held at the Assembly Halls in Gates Green Road on Saturday (Oct 18).

Those taking part adorned traditional wear for the the event, which saw youngsters and adults alike pay tribute.

Also known as the 'festival of lights', Diwali takes place in autumn every day over a five-day period.

To Hindus, it signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair.

It was the seventh year the Diwali party has taken place at the hall, and as well as more serious religious rituals the evening also features a talent show competition, Indian food and drink, and other activities.
