Two talented Bromley youngsters have been awarded four-year scholarships from the Mayor of London’s Music Fund.

Clarinettist Hannah Mitchell and violinist Thais Payne Sanchez, both 10, received the bursaries at an awards ceremony at City Hall last week.

The fund was set up in 2011 to help talented children from disadvantaged families fulfil their musical potential with extensive tuition and support.

Hannah, from Raglan Primary School and Thais Payne, from Southborough Lane Primary School are amongst 70 young people across London’s boroughs to be awarded a scholarship this year.

Concert pianist James Rhodes presented the girls with their awards.

The scholars will receive over two hours of learning, music-making and developmental activities each week plus a personal mentor and opportunities to perform at concerts.

London Mayor Boris Johnson said: “Not every child can afford an instrument or the lesson they need to make real progress as musicians and the Music Fund is doing vital work to help hundreds of gifted youngsters towards realising their ambitions and achieve their full potential."
