A Cliff Richard impersonation has been axed from a production beginning in Dartford next month to prevent a "ruckus".

Trevor Payne, who also wrote the show, That’ll Be The Day, has cut his impersonation of the star amidst sexual abuse allegations.

The show, full of nostalgic hits from past decades, is coming to Orchard Theatre on October 2 but the touring company, Derek Block Concert Promotions, is being careful not to upset audiences.

Cliff’s £3.1million Berkshire home was raided last month in connection with an allegation dating back to an assault of a teenage boy at a Christian rally in 1985, which the singer denies.

A Derek Block Concert Promotions spokesman told News Shopper: "We just took the impersonation out because we thought it would cause a ruckus.

"You just need one audience member to say, ‘why are you doing him for?’ for an argument to start. That’s the only reason.

"We thought we’d wait for it all to blow over.

"The show’s been running for 29 years and it’s still doing really well and since the beginning of August we’ve raised around £8,000 for the Make a Wish Foundation."

That'll Be The Day is at the Orchard Theatre on Thursday, October 2.
