A community centre is glowing with pride after it was commended at an awards ceremony.
Unity Hub at Craig Park, in Edmonton, was recognised by the Architects Journal in the civic and community category for its unique design.
The award commends the way the original structure of the old Craig Park Youth Centre has been merged with the new block.
The centre gives people the chance to make friends, learn new skills, gain qualifications and take part in a variety of activities.
It includes a media suite, a recording studio, a climbing cave, a gym and dance studio and outdoor sport facilities.
Cllr Rohini Simbodyal, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for culture, sport, youth and public health, said, “This award made by the Architects Journal is particularly pleasing since this is the leading national architectural magazine – it is a much coveted seal of approval – and really encouraging as the young people associated with the centre played a major role in the development of the design."
A government MyPlace grant of £3.5m helped develop the centre in 2009.
