A suspicious package found near Southfields was detonated on Wimbledon Common this afternoon.
The suspect package, found near West Hill, was reported to police at 1.44pm. Police cordoned off Sutherland Grove, in between Southfields and East Putney.
The incident caused delays to the District Line and traffic had to be diverted.
Residents reported hearing an explosion on Wimbledon Common which is understood to have been a controlled detonation.
The sound was heard by people in Wimbledon, Putney and Southfields.
Witnesses described seeing approximately eight police vehicles driving out of the common after the explosion.
