Investigators have today admitted the people responsible for the murders of the Al-Hilli family from Claygate, may have got away with "the perfect crime".

This comes on the two-year anniversary of the death of Saad Al-Hilli, 50, his wife Iqbal, 47, her mother Suhaila al-Allaf, 74, and a French cyclist Sylvain Mollier, 45, who were shot on September 5, 2012, while on holiday near Lake Annecy, France.

Mr and Mrs Al-Hilli's daughters, Zainab, then seven, and Zeena, then four, survived the shooting and have never returned to their Claygate home in Oaken Lane.

French prosecutor Eric Maillaud said: "The further we advance, the less conviction we have. It lacks the element of a witness which allows everything to be opened up."

He added: "We have tried everything possible, but perhaps we're in the presence of the perfect crime."

Floral tributes have today been left outside the Al-Hilli's Claygate home with messages reading "we still miss you", and "we hope you are happy wherever you are".
