Kent Lions members are urging people to join them in supporting a life-saving helicopter service.

The community service organisation has partnered up with the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Trust (KSSAA), a charity which launched the first 24-hour Helicopter Emergency Medical Service last year.

Lions Club members in Kent previously raised more than £47,000 towards a £250,000 target.

The fundraising total would help KSSAA to save up to 700 more lives a year.

Aside from running the helicopter service, the charity also uses funds to provide the necessary equipment to keep the helicopter flying at night, and each flying mission costs £2,500.

Chief executive of KSSAA Adrian Bell said: "Of course this costs a lot of money and we could not achieve this without the wonderful support we get from the public and in particular the generous support of the regional Lions Clubs in providing much of our night equipment."
