Smokers who kick the habit as part of a national month will be given free tickets to a comedy show.

Enfield Borough Council is offering tickets to a special event at the Dugdale Centre, in London Road, Enfield, for anyone who quits during October.

Part of the national Stoptober campaign, people who would like to take part can attend a series of advice sessions.

People who would like to stop smoking can visit Palace Gardens Shopping Centre, outside Marks & Spencer, on September 12 where there will be free entertainment.

Cllr Rohini Simbodyal, cabinet member for culture, youth and sport, said: “Smoking is a serious health concern and the greatest preventable cause of death and disability in the borough.

“There are lots of ways that Enfield’s Stop Smoking service can help our residents quit, with different replacement therapies, coping tools and moral support, and all of this is free.

“I would urge everyone who is thinking about stopping smoking to give it a go for Stoptober, and seek help because research shows you are four times more likely to quit with this extra support than stopping on your own."

Stoptober 2014 starts on Wednesday 1 October and runs for 28 days. For more information and to sign up visit Stoptober or call 0800 652 8405 to be put through to your local stop smoking service.
