Talented writers impressed with their poetry in a First World War themed competition.

The Broadwalk Centre, in Station Road, Edgware, asked people to submit poems inspired by the events that took place 100 years ago.

Daniela Haydar, 16, was crowned the winner of the under 18s category with her poem My Husband the Hero.

Annette Stevens won the adult category with her moving words, entitled I thought I knew.

They were each presented with a £50 voucher from WH Smiths by centre manager Darren Saich.

Angela Brooks, centre manager of The Broadwalk Centre, said: “The standard of entries we received was superb and I would like to thank everyone that took the time to enter the competition.

“I was so moved by both Annette and Daniela’s poems that they were our undisputed winners so, on behalf on everyone at The Broadwalk Centre – congratulations ladies.”
