Street gangs will be bought to the limelight in a new photographic exhibition organised by a university.

Students from Middlesex University, in The Burroughs, Hendon, will look at urban culture and street gangs during the event.

It will include photographs by Simon Wheatley’s new book, Don’t Call Me Urban: The Time of Grime.

The photographs tell the story of children growing up in the inner cities, as well as those living in London’s most deprived regions.

Middlesex University Senior Lecturer in Criminology Simon Harding, who has organised the exhibition, said: “This is a unique and exciting exhibition which documents modern social issues in a whole new way.

“Simon’s photographs reveal what living on a deprived London housing estate is really all about - and show us why and how grime music plays such a central part in the lives of urban youth.”

The exhibition takes place in the University’s Grove building from September 1 to September 5, from 12 noon to 6.30pm.
