A 30-year-old man arrested yesterday in connection with the high-profile murder of an exiled Pakistani politician has been bailed.

Police raided an address in Waltham Forest yesterday, almost four years after Dr Imran Farooq, 50, was stabbed several times and bludgeoned with a brick outside his Edgware home in Green Lane.

The 30-year-old arrested yesterday was questioned at a central London police station before being released on bail until mid-November.

Dr Farooq, a prominent member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), died of multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head following the attack on his way home from work on September 16.

He had been living in exile in the UK for more than a decade when he was killed.

A five-and-a-half inch kitchen kinfe and house brick were recovered at the scene.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) believe Dr Farooq was under surveillance in the weeks before his murder.

Detectives would like to speak to two Pakistani men who they believe left the UK on the evening of the fatal attack.

Moshin Ali Syed, 29, and Muhammad Kashif Khan Kamran, 35, both in the UK until 2010 are wanted in connection with the murder.

A 52-year-old man arrested at heathrow airport in June 2013 on suspicion of conspiracy to murder remains on police bail until October.

Police are offering a £20,000 reward for information that leads to the prosecution of Dr Farooq's killers.

Anyone who can assist should call the police incident room on 020 7230 2717 or contact the police by email at SO15Mailbox-.DrFarooqMurder@met.police.uk.
