AN open day to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Syria is being held tomorrow (Thursday) at Hanwell Community Centre in Westcott Crescent, 11am-4pm.

Hosted by the Foreign Office (FCO), it will give Ealing people an opportunity to discuss what more can be done, ask any questions they have about the UK’s response and find out how £600m of UK aid is being used to help.

A spokesman said: “It [the situation] requires an exceptional response and the British government remains committed to doing all it can to help the 9.3 million Syrians in need of humanitarian assistance.

“The Ealing community is already raising money for charities supporting the Syrian people and I look forward to meeting them and hearing their fund-raising stories.”

UK aid is providing essentials such as access to clean water for more than 1.5 million people, food for more than 500,000 per month, medical consultations for almost 316,000 critically injured and sick people, cooking sets, mattresses and blankets for almost 385,000 people, plus 300,000 packs and books to help refugee children.

The open day will to anyone who is interested.
