Borough acts to demolish another illegal 'bed in shed'

BEFORE: the illegal outbuilding prior to demolition

AFTER: the empty space after enforcement officers moved in

ANOTHER illegal outbuilding, used as a ‘bed in a shed,' was demolished by Hillingdon Council after a rogue landlord failed to comply with a planning enforcement notice.

The outbuilding was at the rear of a property in West Drayton Road, Hayes.

An enforcement notice had been served on the owner and occupier and they were given three months to comply.

They were ordered to stop illegally renting out the ‘bed in shed’ and to then demolish it. After they failed to do so, the council intervened and took on the work after the people living there voluntarily moved out.

The action is part of an ongoing project to clamp down on beds in sheds. The borough has a special task force of officers dedicated to investigating and taking action against rogue landlords.

This is the second time the council has been forced to take direct action this year. However, a number of landlords have heeded warnings and demolished illegal outbuildings themselves.

These include properties in Mount Road, Hurstfield Crescent and Pole Hill Road, all in Hayes.
