A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a senior Pakistani politician.

Police raided an address in Waltham Forest today, almost four years after Dr Imran Farooq was attacked with a brick and stabbed to death on his way home from work.

The 50-year-old was attacked outside his home in Green Lane, Edgware, on September 16 2010,

He died as a result of multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head.

A five-and-a-half inch kitchen knife and a house brick used in the attack were recovered at the scene.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) believe Dr Farooq was under surveillance in the weeks before his murder.

Detectives investigating Dr Farooq's murder today raided an address in a unspecified area of Waltham Forest and arrested the man on suspicion of being concerned in the murder.

The suspect remains in custody in a central London police station.

Police have previously said they wish to speak to another two men who are believed to be in Pakistan over the murder.

Pakistani nationals Moshin Ali Syed, 29, and Muhammad Kashif Khan Kamran, 35, both in the UK until 2010 are wanted by police.

A 52-year-old man arrested at heathrow airport in June 2013 on suspicion of conspiracy to murder remains on police bail.
