Laughter filled the air as shoppers put on their dancing shoes and exercised their vocal cords at a community fun day yesterday.

Hundreds of shoppers visited Harrow’s town centre yesterday afternoon and were treated to a vast array of fun activities and musical or dance acts.

Men, women and children joined in with the live performances, learning how to body-roll in a class from pupils of Karan’s Bollywood Masterclass.

Pupils also gave a dance demonstration before speaking about how the dance classes, which fuse traditional Indian dances with modern moves, have helped build their confidence.

Mother-of-two Shauna Matton said her girls, aged five and eight, had really enjoyed the audience participation.

She added: “We’ve had a great time here today. We didn’t know this was on and had just driven over to do some shopping, so it’s been great that the girls could do something a bit more fun for them. I’m taking them to get their faces painted next.”

Other dance performances included a display from Steppinline, who demonstrated their unique choreography.

The group, which is all about dance, fitness and fun, showed off their line formation moves to an array of soul, reggae and hip-hop music.

Bands and artists also took to the stage, outside BHS in St Ann’s Road, to perform a selection of covers and original songs.

Singer Shaun Twomey brought in a crowd with his performance, which included covers of songs by Coldplay.

Children also had a huge variety of activities to choose from, from face painting to street magicians to acts from the Cirque Bijou team.

Louise Baxter, one of the event's organisers, couldn't pick her favourite moment. She said: "The whole event was really good because it was quite consistant with its events and there was so much going on.

"We had a lot of community acts, which shows that they want to get involved which is great. It really increased the footfall through the town for the bank holiday."

The event was organised by the Harrow Town Centre Business Improvement District team.
