A man has been charged in connection with a string of shop burglaries.

David West, 34, of Manor Road, in Wallington, has been charged with conspiracy to burgle in relation to seven burglaries in Surrey.

A Surrey Police spokesman said the charge relates to the burglary of 30 Tag Heuer watches from Ernest Jones, in The Ashley Centre shopping mall, in Epsom, at 11pm on Monday, May 12.

Clothes were also stolen from House of Fraser, in the same shopping centre, at about 12.30am a week before, on Tuesday, May 6.

The spokesman said a Marks and Spencer store in Banstead High Street was broken into and tills were damaged in the early hours of February 25, April 21 and June 6.

During the first break-in, £1,200 in cash was stolen.

Front windows were also smashed during break-ins at Sainsbury’s stores in Cheam Road, Ewell, and in Limpsfield Road, Warlingham, in June.

Mr West has also been charged with a number of offences in the Met Police area.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 3.
