A young tap sensation has wrapped up a glorious year with the news that he will perform solo at the Royal Albert Hall.
When Carmela Lowary was told by a fellow mother at Morgan Aslanoff theatre, in Winchmore Hill, to take her son Luke to the national junior championships, she had no idea what was in store for him.
The 11-year-old was competing against the best the country has to offer in Blackpool over a gruelling weekend.
But the boy from Hampton Way, in Southgate, emerged victorious after heats, semi-finals and a grand final in the space of two days.
Mrs Lowry told the Enfield Independent that she had no idea how well her son would fare.
She said: “It was a simple recommendation and Luke thought he would give it a go. He’s been doing tap since he was six and loves performing.
“It was very hard work for him and we received so much support from people watching the competition.”
Now emerging successful from the competition, Luke will now perform solo at the Royal Albert Hall in November.
Mrs Lowry added: “You are always proud of your children, no matter how they do. But there is always that extra sparkle when they do amazingly and when he was told he was in first place we could not believe it.
“Without his teacher Michele Aslanoff, none of this would be possible. Although it's Luke who performs, she and her school have got him to this stage.
“Who knows how far this can take him.”
