Teenagers are dreaming of places at top universities after achieving some of the best GCSE grades in their school.

Emma Skae, Principal of Walthamstow Academy in Billet Road, said that she is ‘very proud’ of all of the students.

Danny Baalbaki opened his envelope to find six A and A*s, two Bs and one C.

He said: “I was really nervous today, I didn’t know what I was going to get. I woke up to the news this morning saying that there could be the worst grades in years.

“I want to do law at Oxbridge.”

Aqsa Bibi hopes to study medicine after achieveing three A*s, three As and a distinction.

She said: “I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I think I did well. I was really scared this morning.

“I am going to stay here next year.”

Meryam Benaichouche achieved ten A*s and two As.

She said: "I want to do biology, chemistry, maths and English literature (at A-level) and I hope to go on to Cambridge, Imperial, UCL or Queen Mary’s.

“I forgot my phone so I haven’t told my parents yet – I think they will be pleased.”

Official overall result for the school have not been released yet, but it is believed that the A* to C grade pass rate is marginally lower than last year. Full results are expected later today.

Last week the school achieved its best ever A-level results.
