CADETS in the Air Training Corps at 14F Squadron, based at RAF Northolt, have received a £25,000 donation from Hillingdon Council.

The money is to help to pay for a new minibus, so they can continue providing transport for cadets to key community events and activities.

The cadets take part and help with many events, such as the RAF Benevolent Fund fun run at Ruislip Lido, the Lord Mayor's Parade and remembrance parades in the borough.

They have raised nearly £11,000 over the last two years but were still a significant way from reaching their target until civilian instructor Daniel Fickling approached the council.

Daniel, 20, of Ruislip, was a cadet for five years before beginning his voluntary role helping other cadets.

He said: "A new minibus would be a fantastic way to not just benefit the current cadets on the squadron but those who wish to join in years to come.”

There are around 80 cadets with 14F (Northolt) Squadron. The current bus is no longer reliable and the cadets often have to rely on parents driving them to events.

Council leader Ray Puddifoot added: "We recently paid tribute to our war veterans at a civic lunch and we are equally as proud of our younger residents serving in the cadets.”
