A culture vulture is gearing up to walk 15 miles throughout the night to raise money for charity.

Samantha Veal, from Colindale, is taking part in her sixth Maggie’s Culture Crawl, a walk through central London which visits landmarks and cultural locations, on Friday September 19.

It will raise money for Maggie’s, a charity which runs centres around the UK to support people affected by cancer.

Ms Veal, who works for BT, said: “It’s really enjoyable and a great way to see London, while being for a worthwhile cause. You tend to see the same people each year.

“I really enjoy the general atmosphere, and a lot of people are cheering you on. It’s always a little bit different, as the route changes each year.”

Maggie’s has 16 centres across the UK, usually based in hospital grounds. Last year’s Culture Crawl raised £460,000.

The walk this year starts at Victoria Embankment and finishes at the Southbank Centre, taking in an array of stops on the way. Around 1,000 people usually take part.

Ms Veal, who also works as a tour guide at Highgate Cemetery at weekends, added: “There are a lot of people there who have been affected by cancer. It’s always very inspiring, and a really cheerful atmosphere. Some people are in fancy clothes, and some bring along their dogs. It’s very laid back, and the stewards are really supportive.”
