Two Avro Lancaster bombers will visit Biggin Hill Airport this afternoon (August 14).

The Lancasters, which will arrive at 2.30pm, are the sole airworthy survivors of 7,377 built in the UK and Canada during the Second World War.

One is registration PA474 of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

The aircraft is well known for its UK displays with the BBMF Hurricane and Spitfire during the summer months.

The second is based in Canada where it was manufactured in 1945 and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force until 1963.

It was returned to flying condition in 1988 and today is operated under the auspices of the Canadian Warplanes Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario.

The aircraft is crossing the North Atlantic on a special visit to the UK and will join with PA474 for a small number of displays in the UK and Europe before returning.
