Metropolitan Police Chief Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe interrupted a radio appearance to chase down a thief in a taxi.
Sir Bernard was recording a radio interview in Tottenham High Road at the junction of Bruce Grove, when a mini-cab stopped and the driver called for police help.
The taxi driver claimed four men refused to pay their fare and had stolen money from his dashboard.
While an officer with the commissioner chased the suspects, Sir Bernard jumped into the minicab to search for the suspects, before continuing the search in a police car.
A 17-year-old was arrested at Bruce Grove Rail Station on suspicion of theft, handling and making off without payment.
In nearby Napier Road one of the suspects, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft and making off without payment.
Both men are currently in north London police stations.
