Friends of a schoolboy killed in a car crash need just £100 more in order to buy a bench in memory of him and his mother.

Kai Arnold, 11, and his mother Nicola Morris, 29, died in a head-on car crash in Banstead Road, Ewell, on Saturday July 5.

Kai's friend Jake Noakes, 13, said people have kindly donated £1,320 but they do not have enough money for the wooden bench which costs £1,428.

Jake said: "Ninety-three people have contributed towards the bench which is amazing and they have all been so generous."

Any surplus donations will go into a trust fund for Morris’ other son Alfie.

Jake said a shop, Mr Snob in Banstead High Street, has agreed to engrave the plaque for free. The memorial bench will be placed on Woodmansterne green near a carved-out log.

Nicola Morris

Last month Jake said: "This was where they grew up and also one of their favourite places.

"Nicola was one of the most nicest people you will ever meet. She never did anything wrong, she would do her best to help anyone.

"I could say Kai was the nicest young boy as well but he weren't. He was a typical young boy. Even though he was a typical young boy he would try his hardest to please everyone and that was the best thing about Kai."

Woking Coroner's Court said an inquest into the deaths of Kai and Ms Morris was opened and adjourned in July.
