A celebration of excellence across the care sector brought hundreds of people together who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to helping others.

A record number of 169 carers filled Clarendon Hall in York House on Thursday, July 31, where the winners of the annual Dignity in Care Awards were announced.

Tribute was paid to those who went above and beyond their duty to deliver first-class care to Richmond residents.

Lakmini Chandrasena Aswatte was awarded carer of the year in recognition of her dedication in looking after a resident.

Sue Lucas, who cares for a young person with autism, was given the personal assistant award.

She was described on the nomination form as "utterly consistent" and "reliable".

Homes of the year was awarded to Tracey Bishton, whose work is of the highest standard and the respect, kindness and personalised care she provides to all residents is indisputable.

All nominees received a certificate presented by the borough’s mayor Councillor Jane Boulton and were thanked by judges from Richmond Council, Age UK and living independently charity Ruils.
