Celebrations marking the grand opening of a new Hindu temple will begin next week.

The Shree Swaminarayan Mandir, in Kingsbury, will officially open later this month and the temple community will be holding a number of events to mark the occasion.

These will start with a parade through central London on Sunday August 17 from 10.30am.

This will be followed by a festival opening ceremony at Kingsbury Road temple on Tuesday August 19.

Then on the following three days that week at 7.30pm each night there will be events in Silver Jubilee Park, including a music show, drama show and dance show.

From 4pm on Saturday August 23, there will be a parade from St Luke’s Hospice in Kenton Grange to the new temple with dhol drummers, costumed dancers and the temple's own Scottish Pipe Band.

The festive will end with a closing ceremony the following day at the temple.

The new temple in Kingsbury cost £20 million to build, with money raised by worshippers and through the sale of its previous site in Golders Green.

Earlier this year Mayor of London Boris Johnson visited the temple for the opening of its new multi-purpose community centre.

What a narrow minded view. You do not even know the meaning of Great in Britain. It is a geographical designation. What is wrong in people of a religious faith having a place to worship, the country is full of churches, most nearly empty on a Sunday.
