Police are trying to find the owner of a £200 bicycle after two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of stealing it.

Officers seized the mountain bike from two men, aged 17 and 18, near Morden Road tram stop in the early hours of Saturday, June 28.

At about 12.30am officers in a marked police car became suspicious of the men after they quickly turned down a side road on seeing them.

When police stopped the pair, both from Mitcham, the police dog found a recently-discarded bag, with a pair of bolt cutters inside, nearby.

Unable to prove the bike was theirs, police arrested the men on suspicion of theft of a bike and going equipped to steal.

The bike is a grey-black 'X-rated' men's mountain bike with disk brakes.

The teenagers have been released on bail, to return to a police station in August.

The owner of the bike is asked to contact PC Hannah Collar of Merton Case Progression Unit on 020 8649 0464
