Sewage was flowing down Station Road, Orpington, for three days, causing a stink for people who use the road.

Colin Childs, 50, from Sevenoaks, travels to the road every day to pick up his son up from Orpington station.

He told News Shopper: "It stinks to high heaven. You can see the excrement in it - it is disgusting.

"It was a problem a couple of weeks ago, went away and now it's come back a few days ago.

"I'm not sure why it keeps happening but it is a health hazard - it certainly shouldn't be left for three days."

A spokeswoman for Thames Water said: "We're sorry to people affected by the sewage leak. It was caused by a blockage in the sewer which we cleared on Wednesday (August 6)."

"News Shopper is waiting for a comment from Thames Water."

Just curious, but why does the NS publish these incomplete articles? We see this a lot with "waiting for a comment from ". This rush to publish just means you end up with unbalanced reporting.

Get with the program. keep people dumb and ill informed. The main papers do it all the time. So the news shopper reporters are aiming for a better job with the nationals.

"I can only report not research, I type what you say boss!" BANG! you got the job.

Evidently NS is a website reporter ie it gets its stories direct from police, fire, ambulance, council etc websites and simply copy's the content. I understand sometimes a phone call is also made.

Feel sorry for the business and other residents.......
Have a similar issue with Thames water over a sewage issue, as the council ( Bexley) have simply 'outsourced there responsibility' to Thames Water, who have passed it on to Metrorod...... They have been out three times and despite several calls to Thames water based in Reading and there polite young ladies, no engineer seems to be able to attend to find out how to deliver a resolution.?
Council response...... just gave me the name of the governing body to complain to?...... Oh well !... sorry to bother you Mr Wood you can get back to box ticking and directing people to websites?.
Did i complain... afraid so.........
