THE war memorial on the corner of Pitshanger Lane and Denison Road, Ealing, was re-dedicated at a moving ceremony on Sunday morning.
St Barnabas is the parish church in Pitshanger and forms part of the historic Brentham Estate.
As custodian of the memorial, the church worked with Pitshanger Community Association, the Brentham Society, the Cleveland ward forum and the council's street contractors, Murrills, to organise the full refurbishment in time for the centenary of the start of World War One.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Steve Pound, MP for Ealing North), Rupa Huq, Labour parliamentary candidate for Ealing Central and Acton, several councillors and more than 100 parishioners and community members.
The congregation gathered outside and the choir sang Oculi Omnium as the vicar, the Rev Justin Dodd, censed the memorial in memory of the men and women who gave their lives for others in all wars.
As well as remembering those who fell in the Great War, prayers were said for all those currently in conflict zones.
A spokesman for St Barnabas said: βIt was hoped we could all learn from the terrible lessons of World War One, so that mistakes from the past are not repeated.β
