Parents and staff at a children’s centre are celebrating the highest accolade from Ofsted inspectors.

The Acacia Centre in Grove Road, Mitcham, has been awarded the outstanding rating following an inspection.

The centre was praised for being a vibrant community venue, providing services that local residents need and use regularly.

These include the pre-school that provides free education for two-year olds, the toddle and talk group, play area and health checks service.

A Merton Council spokesperson said the report spoke highly of how successfully the centre supports parents in the community.

The spokesperson said its Job Club has helped 70 per cent of members get back into work and through visiting the centre regularly, a large number of local parents have improved their educational, language and parenting skills.

A special mention was given to the dedication and commitment shown by the staff and the strong partnerships built with local groups.

Merton’s cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Maxi Martin said, “I am really proud that our Acacia Centre is being recognised for the brilliant work it does helping families in the community. "Special thanks must go to the staff who work tirelessly to help young children and parents who visit the centre.”
