Edmonton’s Got Talent is back in 2014 with more singers and musicians hoping to showcase their star quality.

Thirty contestants took to the stage at Edmonton Green Shopping Centre on Saturday to perform in front of hundreds of people during the first of this year’s heats.

Stanley Berky, 35, secured second prize and £100 with a rendition of When A Man Loves A Woman, while 11-year-old Ellie Wright, who also competed last year, returned to impress the judges with her version of Royals by Lorde, earning third prize and £50.

But it was Davis Elike, 18, who took the top spot and a £200 prize after singing Mariah Carey’s Without You. He will now compete against the next three heat winners in the final on August 16, with a further £250 prize on offer to the winner.

Edmonton Green Centre manager Roger Allen said: “The kids and adults looked, sounded and came across like professionals, but it was our three winners that really stood out for the judges as having that extra star quality. There is no doubt this is one of our best events with the variety of talent on display. Not only do these events provide an opportunity for budding performers, they are a means of building a sense of community and bringing people together to take pride in the area.”

The competition, supported by the Enfield Independent, was judged by Mr Allen, singer-songwriter Salena Mastroianni and vocalist Tess Burrstone.

The next heat takes place this Saturday. In addition to the main competition, Edmonton Green’s open-stage nights will be returning every Thursday from July 31 to August 14, starting from 4pm in the North Square.
